Chipping Challenge Beta01 Changelog


Chipping Challenge is now in beta. I consider alpha -> beta to be a significant change for a project. It means that the core gameplay is hammered out and can be expanded upon and augmented. Work has begun on the iOS version, which will be available on the App Store. Depending on how well the controls work, I may attempt a tvOS version.

Beta Features 

  • Single-screen golf levels with physics-driven ball movement
  • Start with 5 swings, gain 3 swings per level cleared
  • Other bonuses may increase your remaining swings
  • Per-level wind variations
  • 5 playfield styles including Green, Moon, Beach, and Sweater Weather with more to come
  • Local all-time high score tracking
  • Lush, relaxing, background music
  • Thematic sound effects

Beta01 Changes Over Alpha05

  • The ball can get stuck in even fewer situations
  • Angular drag has been reduced, making the ball more lively
  • Linear drag has been increased
  • Wind is now more rare, a 1/5 chance
  • The mass of the ball has been increased by 50%
  • Gravity has been scaled up 
  • The ball is slightly larger
  • Shot power has been increased 25%
  • Maximum slope angle is now much higher
  • Minimum slope angle is now slightly lower
  • Friction was reduced by 8%
  • Maximum wind force was increased by 1
  • Chipping Challenge's Extra Future catalogue number is exposed on the title screen: VCA-001
  • Removed average strokes readout, it sucked
  • Created new flag graphic
  • Added special green flag
  • Repositioned elements on title screen
  • Removed several unused assets from the project
